Much of our regional pride goes to the beautiful castles that are located in the Lys Valley. Unfortunately, only the gates of Ooidonk Castle and Rumbeke Castle are open to the general public.

Castle Ooidonk

The water fortress in Bachte-Maria-Leerne near Deinze stands proud, stern and opulent in an old bend in the Lys River. It is surrounded by a beautiful, 45-hectare park. Ooidonk is often described as a gem of Flemish-Spanish architecture of the 16th century. The new visitor's route makes a visit even more worthwhile. The gardens can also be visited.

Rumbeke Castle

Rumbeke Castle is located in the Provincial Domain Sterrebos in Roeselare, a 27-hectare park with a pond. It offers a few places where you can enjoy a delicious meal, snack or regional beer. If the weather is bad you can visit an interesting exhibition about the role of King Albert I during WWI; the exhibition is inside the beautiful castle.
